Celebrating the (Intangible) Milestones After a Total Knee Replacement
A total knee replacement is a big surgery that can help someone, like you, who has a lot of pain in their knee. This type of surgery helps people go back to doing the things they love, but it’s also important to remember that recovery isn't always measured by what can be seen physically. Let’s explore some of the intangible milestones immediately following  a total knee replacement!

Celebrating Small Victories!
You may not be able to do everything you were able to do before your surgery right away, but don’t forget to celebrate all your small wins along the way. The first ones could be something as simple as pumping your ankle without pain or contracting your quad for the first time. Maybe it’s simply lifting your leg from the floor to bed or getting up from a chair without help. These accomplishments deserve to be celebrated, no matter how small they are! You are making progress every single day and each step forward is something to be proud of.

Gaining Independence
Recovering from a total knee replacement means that you will eventually gain back some independence! Being able to actually walk with your own cup of coffee or a glass of water is a big deal. Those are the simple things that lead to doing things around the house like laundry and cooking dinner will make you feel good about the progress you're making. It’s important to take things slow and ask for help if needed, but being independent again will make you feel more like yourself.

Inspire Others Around You
Your knee replacement adventure can also inspire those around you! It’s what inspired my community on Facebook! Seeing how well you recover after a total knee replacement might encourage someone else facing similar challenges. Your strength and resilience can motivate others who may have been feeling scared or overwhelmed - it’s okay to lean on others for support during tough times and use their support as motivation when it comes time for recovery.

Reaching milestones after a total knee replacement isn't always easy, but celebrating both tangible and intangible victories along the way can help with the healing process! Remember that it's ok to ask for help when needed and use other people's stories as motivation through your own journey - there is nothing more inspiring than seeing someone overcome obstacles with strength and resilience! You got this!

Meet Suzie Andrade

I was 41 when I was told I needed a knee replacement.
And that my other knee would likely follow.

That sentence alone changed how I moved through the world.

I stopped playing softball.
I stopped walking just to "walk".
I avoided stairs. Curbs. Parking far away for extra steps.
Even the small, normal things started to feel like obstacles.

One day, I was on the beach, walking through the sand and muttering under my breath with every painful step. I wanted to walk down to the water, but it felt too far. That was the day I drew a very real line in the sand and decided I couldn’t keep living this way.

I had my left knee replaced at 45, my right hip at 46 and my right knee at 48.

What I didn’t know then was that pain would shape my purpose.

Each surgery taught me more than how to heal a body. It taught me resilience, patience and how much faith we carry when we’re forced to slow down and keep going. It also showed me this: there are real gaps in the knee replacement "adventure".

Doctors and physical therapists do important work, but they don’t talk about everything — the fear, the frustration, the days when healing feels invisible. Not because they don’t care. Because they haven’t lived it. I have.

That’s why I created the Yetter Getter Mindset and why I show up as your Holistic Knee Replacement Coach — to fill in the spaces that get skipped so recovery feels doable, supported and human.
